Lorraine Gilbert, Marcel Blouin, Lart Timewell Bremner and Peter Culley — Lorraine Gilbert. Canadian landscapes
Paysages canadiens / Canadian Landscapes is a richly illustrated publication, designed by Lorraine Gilbert following the exhibition of the same name curated by Marcel Blouin and presented at EXPRESSION, Centre d’exposition de Saint-Hyacinthe, from August 16th to October 27th, 2013. This book includes some thirty works produced over a period of 25 years, from 1988 to 2013, and presents the underlining concepts of the artist’s landscape photography practice, one that explores the subtle interaction between the topographies of our habitats, the environment, and nature. Lorraine Gilbert proposes a critical reflection on the contradictory worlds which surround us, in what she terms the juxtaposition of fact and fiction in documentary practice. The contributing authors to this publication Marcel Blouin, Lary Timewell Bremner and Peter Culley, through their critical insights elucidate this complex body of work and an approach so filled with the robust culture in all that concerns the representation of the landscapes of Québec, Canada and North America.
