DANIEL CORBEIL
Daniel Corbeil is a sculptor and photographer who was born in Val-d'Or in Abitibi-Témiscamingue and who now lives and works in Montreal. He has been active in the visual arts community since the early 1990s and his work, made out of recycled materials and foodstuffs, has been shown in Quebec, France, Denmark and Switzerland. Developing out his interest in contemporary environmental issues, at ORANGE he presents an evolving work entitled Étuveuse climatique. This installation, which Corbeil created in 2004 and has been transforming ever since, was born of his desire to study the representation of landscape with respect to global warming. By imitating the scientific techniques which make it possible to simulate the climate changes underway in northern environments, Corbeil has created a playful metaphor for the pernicious effects of industrialisation, leading viewers to think about our responsibility to manage and preserve the environment.

Daniel Corbeil will also present his work at the Galerie des arts visuels de l'Université Laval, from September10 to October 11, 2009.
